Watching a blockbuster movie late at night? Have neighbours with sensitive hearing or living in an apartment with paper-thin walls? Normally turning down the volume during the action scenes means when the action stops, you then have to turn up the volume again to hear voices during the dialogue only scenes. Then you have to turn it down again when the next action scene comes along., meaning yuor viewing pleasure is interrupted by having to constantly adjust the volume controls. How about a system that automatically reduces the audio of sound effects and action scenes but keeps voice audio at a reasonable level?
